Botany / Traditional medicine, plant name - Nicaragua
Spanish term or phrase: capirote verde
Plant names are usually my specialty, but I've come to a dead end on this one. It's a cure for cutaneous leishmaniasis. It seems to actually work, so it would really like to find it if I can. Yes, I know I can just leave it in italics Spanish, but that's not my style, especially in this case, which is a report I'm translating for a major international organization.

Context:

Asker: Thanks for the link, Lorena! It got me started, but I found nine plants called "capirote." I could only rule out one, which is called "capirote blanco" and belongs to a different family. If it's not unanswerable, the answer may take a long time coming.

Asker: BTW, we have Tibouchina of various kinds right here in San Diego.

agree  philgoddard: Because the word refers to so many different species, the question may be unanswerable unless we can find the original study and it gives a Latin name.

agree  Marie Wilson: I put this link in the discussion this morning, but it doesn't click. Don't apologise! I didn't copy it well and it wasn't visible. It's the only mention of it I could find too.

-> I hadn't realised that you had already found this reference. Marie, sorry about that but thanks for the blue 'agree' :-)
agree  Rachel Fell: seems possible, though maybe Muriel can ask...

-> I've given up looking because there are so many kinds of 'capirote'. Let's hope Muriel gets a reply. Thank you, Rachel :-)
