Just as a warning: on my iMac with Sierra, Word didn't start after yesterday's update to 15.39. Had to revert to 15.38. All other apps of the Office 365 suite are fine.

I only have El Capitan on which I've installed Office 2016 (university license). I haven't had problems.

Yes, Mario, it's Word for Mac 2016, in the About screen reported as 15.x.
And I also noticed that on my MacBook Pro this latest build doesn't work either. So it's not related to my iMac.

Word for Mac 15.39, build 171010, runs fine on macOS High Sierra (10.13) here.

Oct 13, 2017
My copy of Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint 2016, that is) version 15.32 works fine on my El Capitan 10.11.6 installed on my 15-inch MacBook Pro (2011 manufacture). Thanks for the heads up.
