English term

grasp at rational analysis

English Bus/Financial Economics Bitcoin
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2018-04-19/what-bitc...
----
What's the value of a cryptocurrency made of code with no country enforcing it, no central bank controlling it, and few places to spend it? Is it $2, $20,000, or $2 million? Can one try to grasp at rational analysis, or is this just the madness of crowds?
-----
The cryptocurrency here refers to Bitcoin.

Does "...grasp at rational analysis" mean "Can one try to estimate the value of Bitcoin using rational analysis"?

Discussion

philgoddard Apr 20, 2018:
I think it's slightly confusing because it's a tautology: "try to" and "grasp at" mean the same thing.

grasp at = understand

Note from asker:
"get to understand the rational analysis of" sounds like somebody has given a rational analysis of the value of Bitcoin and another person tries to understand that analysis. But there is nothing in the article which says there is already such a rational analysis.

Thank you :)
agree philgoddard : You've linked to the wrong reference at the end, though. "Grasp at" means "try to achieve", not "understand": https://www.macmillandictionary.com/dictionary/british/grasp...

agree Tina Vonhof (X) : @asker: No, there may not be a rational analysis yet but the question is: is it possible to achieve such as rational analysis yourself. The writer's point is that he doubts it.
