Syringeability refers to the force required for the injection of a given solution at a given injection rate via a needle of predetermined gauge and length. The force is attributed to the break loose force (initial force required to set the plunger in motion), and extrusion force needed to sustain the plunger movement. The break loose (BL) and extrusion force (EF) is influenced by the syringe, needle, and solution properties. A study of syringe forces exerted by rheumatoid arthritis patients demonstrated that these patients are capable of delivering maximum forces in excess of 20 N to conventional syringes, and therefore break loose or extrusion forces of up to 20 N would be usable by patients. This target of 20 N was used and is deemed *conservative* because X is healthcare provider administered.
