Spanish term

Oblito

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) Surgery
I am translating an article about "oblito" (forgotten objects left inside the body after surgery).

I am trying to find the most accurate term for this word in English.

Is the latin expression "oblito" also used in English?

or is it preferable one of these terms: ?
- Retained surgical instruments
- Retained objects

Translation sample:
The term "oblito" is known by different names such as "textiloma", "gossypiboma", " cottonoid"; these words refer to the type of material found in the patient's cavity. Its real incidence is unknown due to under-reporting because of fear of lawsuits for medical error.

Discussion

Oblitus is the Latin. Oblito is Spanish/Portuguese.
philgoddard Feb 19, 2021:
The Latin is oblitus, not oblito But I can't find any evidence that it's used in English.
Your question is confusing because there's no Spanish in it - should it be English-English?

retained surgical item

"Retained foreign object" is still perhaps the most common term, but it is falling out of favor as it can refer to foreign bodies not related to surgery. Retained surgical item (RSI) is now the preferred term, considered a subset of retained foreign objects.
