Nachtrag

German to English Medical Medical (general)
From a letter, written in 1941 in Vienna, Austria:

"Ich bin froh, daß Rita masernfrei ausgegangen ist, oder kam etwa noch ein Nachtrag?"

Not sure how to translate "Nachtrag" in this medical context.
Proposed translations (English)

... oder, here: Means "unless she got it later on". Oder is followed by etwa, so you must actually translate "oder etwa".

I believe that the word "oder" is essential here for a better understanding of what is the intended meaning here. So, the author of this letters says that she (I bet it's a she) is glad that Rita didn't get measles... and then comes this "oder" indicating the possibility of the opposite scenario, where she may have actually got(ten) the disease, but the presentation is either atypical or there is fear that the symptoms may appear later on in the course. That's how I read it (,not being Austrian).

Vorsicht! Nicht alle deutschen Wörter werden in Österreich in gleicher Bedeutung verwendet und verstanden. Hier müsste auch der Begriff "ausgegangen" hinterfragt werden. Ist damit der Verlauf, der Ausgang, das Ende gemeint, oder vielleicht, dass Rita sich beim spazierengehen anestecht hat, oder gar mit Masern spazieren gegangen ist? Auch "Nachtrag" ist mehrdeutig. So könnte sich noch ein längeres Sichtum angeschlossen haben. Um all das zu klären, sollte Timoshka weitere Einzelheiten mitteilen.

Careful Don't have much time till later, but a short note to all:
It says that she never got the measles in the first place, so she can neither have some after-affects nor a relapse.

"...oder kam etwa noch ein Nachtrag" = "oder hat sie doch noch welche bekommen?"

After-effects I think they are trying to say that the person may have had some after-effects or perhaps, like Phil said, relapse of the measles.

To know how to phrase it absolutely correctly, we'd need more context. Did the woman describe any inconclusive symptoms on Rita, observed later on and asked: Could it be that there are delayed symptoms?

Or is she asking wether the symptoms could appear later on.

The past tense "am" throws me off a bit.

You could figure it out by the context, though.

Nachtrag, in any case, is a delayed reaction of some sort.

agree Björn Vrooman : Several of the people writing these letters aren't GNS, so there might be another interpretation I haven't considered. But masernfrei ausgegangen tells me she never did get the measles unless something has changed in the meantime (=Nachtrag).

Postexposure

The word in medicine means "addendum", but I met the term "nachträgliche Impung" meaning " postexposure vaccine".
Maybe that's what you are looking for.

masernfrei : is ambiguous as does not pinpoint whether Rita had measles in the first place.

Oddly, this meaning is not in any of my medical or Austrian language dictionaries, but is
crystal-clear in the localis/yed context of Vienna.

Otherwise, I am indeed 'nachtragend' when it comes to ProZ tactical voting.

It's hard to know without some further context, but this could be read as someone (the first person narrator) perusing documents regarding Rita's history, and wondering if some additional information might have followed regarding whether she in fact contracted measles.
