German to English Medical Medical: Cardiology
Ecocardiography:

AK funktionell ob. Regurg. der MK und TK, PAP normal, PK nicht eingesehen. VCI 16mm, *kaum av.*

How could I translate *kaum av*?
Maybe *Hardly visible*?

Thank you in advance!

@Emilia, are you kidding? I'm not on a hunt for points, but are you kidding me? You gloss my answer (verbatim), you confirm that a cardiologist (?) had helped you before I answered and obviously gave the same answer, and you award points to Susanne? Susanne is an excellent translator and a great colleague, but this is not right.

You're welcome!
Anne Schulz Sep 13, 2023:
Thank you phil, and please keep explaining. In this case, I know what VCI stands for, but your interventions have helped me numerous times to understand askers' question.
philgoddard Sep 12, 2023:
I did read the whole post. I didn't know what VCI was and had to look it up. I mentioned it because other people might not know either.
Emilia De Paola (asker) Sep 12, 2023:
Thank you, Phil, I am sure of that. The problem is not VCI but, if you read the whole post, it is *kaum av*
philgoddard Sep 12, 2023:
VCI Inferior vena cava, I think.

neutral Lirka : I agree about the meaning in German, but it is usually expressed as "inspiratory collapse" (or lack thereof) in English.

IVC diameter 16 mm with almost no inspiratory collapse

kaum av= hardly any/almost no inspiratory collapse

I agree with Susanne regarding the meaning in German, but in EN it is expressed as "collapse" rather than "varying". For example, dilated IVC with no collapse is seen in acute heart failure.
