Dutch to English Law/Patents Law: Contract(s) Rental agreement
I would be grateful for a suggestion on how to translate the 'wijst op' ('opwijzen') in the following phrase, taken from a clause in a rental agreement. Many thanks in advance!

Context:

'Plaatsen van binnenwanden volgens de nieuwe layout. Deze binnenwanden zullen van hetzelfde type zijn als de bestaande. Voor zover als mogelijk zullen de bestaande binnenwanden hiervoor gerecupereerd worden. De Verhuurder wijst op.'

Discussion

Adela Van Gils Feb 4, 2005:
opwijzen does not exist and it is not a sentence because part is missing.
jarry (X) Feb 4, 2005:
I agree with elsthant. There seems to be something missing and I would ask the author or client.
Els Thant, M.A., B.Tr. (X) Feb 4, 2005:
Are you sure the sentence is "De Verhuurder wijst op", because this does not make any sense, unless it is "hierop" or something else still follows...

Lessor points this out.draws attention to this fact/hereto

ie Lessor makes a point of stating this-draws attention to this fact.
afaik.....
Peer comment(s):

agree Deborah do Carmo : yes or the "Lessor emphasises that..........."//First time I read it I assumed something did follow. It doesn't concern me really that it doesn't either - I then read as a confirmation of the preceding sentences. Whenever in doubt though, check.

yup-this list is not restrictive. :-)/had the same reaction as you. I've seen stranger things in Dutch. but checking with client is the best way to go.more sentence could certainly follow.

neutral jarry (X) : "De Verhuurder wijst op." is not a complete sentence and therefore not be interpreted or translated without contacting the author or client.

erop. I think it's just a statement confirming and emphasising/stressing what went before. that's my take-but a check with client would cofirm or condemn.
disagree Adela Van Gils : Dit is koffiedik kijken. Wat er staat is geen zin en betekent dus niets.

Did anyone say the verb is 'opwijzen'? no such verb exists. the verb is wijzen. no one else seems to be 100% sure about this.
neutral Tina Vonhof (X) : agree with Jarry. Even if you add 'erop', it still doesn't make any sense.

neutral Johan Venter : I would ask for clarification form the author.

disagree shineda : met Adela. 'wijzen' of 'opwijzen' : beide hebben hier geen betekenis.

Ik heb vertaling opgestuurd naar de klant, 'wijst op' onvertaald gelaten (highlighted in yellow), met de opmerking het even na te vragen wat er bedoeld mocht zijn. Een kudoz-puntje voor iedereen voor de discussie. :-)"
