how to correctly translate this name into Latvian and should I be leaving the original names in brackets when translating police witness statements? Many thanks Are there any rules for translation of person names when it comes to documents like this?

Taņa/Tatjana

The name is in diminutive form, the usual full name is Tatjana.
But, who knows, in American English the name "Tanya" also is used, as far as I am aware.
The more information you give, the better - that's regarding the full name, original, etc. in brackets.
Note from asker:
Thanks for this answer. The person in question here is of British origins, originally Tanya, so think Tania will sound better. In any case, since it is a legal document, original names are left in brackets in this case. Thanks again.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Andra Tomase : Well, I guess, it depends on the origin of the respective person. If we are sure she is Russian, we may use Taņa/Tatjana (Tanya/Tatyana). Yet, she might be American or British or whoever else... Then, Tania (Tanya) would be more appropriate.
