English term

pre-bleed

English Tech/Engineering Manufacturing
In a water cooling system.
The context: "The ORP/free chlorine relationship is different for different cooling systems and varies with pH. The ORP set point has to be determined for each cooling system and checked regularly using halogen water tests (DPD)".

There are two timeres, one timer for non-oxidising biocide and one timer for oxidising biocide. Then there is a table for timers settings:

In the 1st column: Timer setting
Pre-blowdown (blowdown
before biocide dosage)

In the 2nd column: Values
Yes/no, conductivity value (pre-bleed when
reading > value) in uS/cm and maximum
duration in #minutes.

What is meant by "pre-bleed when reading>value" here?

bleed down to X% of ... prior to biocide dosage

Here, pre-bleed should be done if one reads higher than the conuctivity value.

"Pre-bleed" in cooling systems: Where the cooling system is allowed to bleed down to X% of set point conductivity value prior to commenecement of biocide dosage.

before bleeding (removing air from) the system

"when reading > value" means "when the equipment reading is greater than some fixed value", which indicates that air has got into the system and needs removing.

neutral Harry Borsje : What is the relevance of air when this refers to the conductivity of the water?

run off some liquid from the system

I think this means that when the reading obtained it HIGHER than the target value, it will be necessary to drain off some of the (presumably old) liquid and then re-test. Since we are talking about CONDUCTIVITY values, a high value would mask the low value that you are looking for (and not vice-versa).

I believe I'm right in saying that adding the chemical to the water will RAISE its conductivity, therefore a HIGH reading could (wrongly, perhaps) indicate TOO MUCH product in the water.
