Hebrew term

מבנאי מטוסים

Hebrew to English Tech/Engineering Engineering (general)
How would the profession מבנאי מטוסים be translated?

Is it a structural engineer?

Discussion

Suzan Chin (asker) Jan 24, 2007:
More context This profession appears in a certificate of discharge from the IDF under the category of מקצועות צבאיים שנרכשו
Ron Armon Jan 24, 2007:
True. I've just seen quite a lot of "wanted" adds for "מבנאי" (airplanes and ships too). Perhaps I'll try to become one... :-)
Suzan Chin (asker) Jan 24, 2007:
Ron, apparently it isn't a typo although I thought it was at first. :)
Ron Armon Jan 24, 2007:
I'm not an expert in the field (although I've done jobs in it). I guess you're sure that's not typo for "מכונאי"?

Engineering technician, of course.

Or change 'aircraft' to 'aeronautical' if you are being paid by the character ...

agree Lior Bar-On : Technically a decent translation. I would have just written aircraftsman, unless the client wanted to be really specific

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you. You are right. In this context it is a skill acquired during a military service. Therefore, engineering technician fits here."

Aeronautical engineer

literally airplane builder
Peer comment(s):

disagree Eynnat : An aeronautical engineer is an academic professional qualification; this one is well below that level.

Aircraft structural engineer

I think you're right there. See the courses below.
The only thing is that those experts are not always engineers,
but "structural repair man" or "repair guy" is both poor language AND sexist... :-) and even "structural repair person" doesnt cut it.

disagree Eynnat : A structural engineer is an academic professional qualification

(aeronautics) structural engineer

It is clearly not an engineer, therefore the Morfix definition is not correct. The best definition would be Aeronautical engineering technician =
Performs technical tasks, normally under direction and supervision of aeronautical engineer, contributory to design, development, construction, maintenance and repair of aircraft.

disagree Eynnat : In that case, it most certainly is not a structural engineer, which is an academic professional qualification.
