Spanish term

ejerce su habitar

Spanish to English Other Philosophy
I.e. habitar as a noun. In a rather philosophical part of a book on bridges from Spain. I suspect this may, in part, be based on Heidegger:

"Al igual que con la casa, ejerce su habitar al erigir un cerco que le permita graduar lo que venga a su encuentro."

Other uses of habitar as a noun:

"Esas marcas o productos construidos del habitar reflejan voluntades de ser frente a la naturaleza..."

"La horizontalidad contextual del paisaje se conjuga entonces con la verticalidad promovida por lo ligero para afirmar su habitar en el mundo."

"No se ve desde lejos, grande o inaccesible sino como algo cotidiano próximo a la escala más cercana del habitar que es la vivienda."

exercises its dwelling

If the text is based on Heidegger then I would definitely use the term "dwelling" or even "dwelling-place" if this fits better in other uses of it. As a Heideggerian term it can, in a sense, serve as both noun and verb at the same time so as to infer an active dwelling/inhabiting and a place of dwelling. Perhaps this dual meaning is intentional on the part of the writer...
