Discussion

neilmac Oct 18, 2016:
@phil 'Abordador' is apparently also a term for grappling equipment, at least according to my (not so) trusty Beigber Atienza dictionary...
philgoddard Oct 18, 2016:
But that just means "boarders", people who board. I agree that it's probably a typo, though.
neilmac Oct 18, 2016:
Possible typo? The closest I can find in nautical terms is "abordador"...

stoppers

Probably a spelling mistake: abosador > abozador

abozar > to stop, to stopper
abozar la cadena > to stop the chain
Luís Suárez Gil, Diccionario Técnico Marítimo

Note from asker:
Certainly much more likely than "funnels", which the original translator used.

Thanks, Neil :-))
agree philgoddard : I'm still not totally sure about this, because abozador gets almost no hits. But it sounds convincing.

Thanks, Phil. Yes, I couldn't find any either, but the context would seem to point to it.
agree bigedsenior : the ref does it
