Word/Wordfast get stuck during clean-up and part of the text disappears

Dear colleagues,
I am trying to clean up a word document, but somehow, the clean-up procedure is extremely slow and then, after about 3 minutes (which is a lot for a two-page text!), the clean text appears... and over half of it is missing! Has any of you every had this problem? Can you think of any solutions? I'd be VERY grateful!

Alternative cleaning method Sep 4, 2009

Dear Fiona,

Do you use Wordfast Classic? If so, try the following clean up procedure that has been successful in my complex documents of more than 8 Mb.

Do not use the clean-up button of the WF toolbar or in the Tools section. Instead, clean your document by replacing hidden text with nothing: Ctrl+F -> find/"more"/format/tick "hidden text" -> replace/leave the replace line blank -> replace all. I hope this will help!

I hadn't thought of that. Luckily, it worked on my laptop but I'll think of that solution if I ever have the problem again. Thanks!
