I think I'm reasonably aware of the latest developments in the translation "industry", although I'm wary about many of the claims currently being made in favour of things like AI and ChatGPT. Basically, coming from the 20th century, I think that any tool is only as good as the competent human being using it.
PS: Having said that, I must add that I'm currently grateful for the existence of substandard MT, as I'm currently re-translating swathes of machine-generated gibberish SW stri... I consider myself well-informed about what interests me in the field of translation, it may not necessarily be the latest "innovations"...

You can’t get away from MT this, MT that, AI this, AI that, on here.
However, I am a serious translator and writer, so none of it is relevant.

I try to keep myself up to date about whatever lunacy the translation industry comes up with. Which is not saying that I have any active part in it. Also glad to see at least some backlash on LSPs' LinkedIn postings about the breathtaking quality and productivity improvements that AI brings to machine translation and translation in general.

Am I wrong to assume that "the latest in translation" are all the various ways translators can hack the system, i. e. get the same output with less work? CAT tools are old, and I think they are about the most helpful thing you can find if you're considering automating translation tasks (no handwriting and no typewriters for me, thank you very much). AI-enabled power tools are a gimmick, they fool people into thinking they can do paid work effortlessly. And still I'm guessing there are tons of ... And still I'm guessing there are tons of junk texts that call for junk translations, which are just supposed to be there because a law says so and have no real value: no one will ever be learning anything from them. They are MT's legit province; if someone thinks they can keep translating such texts for 10+ cents per word, they might be in line for a disappointment. Our profession is so dynamic that I think it's impossible not to be up to date and well-informed about the latest developments.
Certainly, some of them are more appealing than others and I tend to know and learn what interests me most.
