How wonderful, thanks! I've never heard of linear on the nose or lifted aromatics but both seem to do the job! Thanks very much. |

dense nose
could be this?
DENSE: Describes a wine that has concentrated aromas on the nose and palate. A good sign in young wines.

or could be literally 'vertical to the nose' meaning the 'first nose' aroma rises vertically, immediately-but I'm guessing;)

'dense first nose' could also work

you're welcome-do we know what wine is being described by the way? It could help

Ok, in that case I stand by my suggestion.

Thanks for this but I was looking for something more specific. I found the negative references that Phil mentions too but here it is intended to be positive. I'll think some more about it. |
In answer to your question, it's a Sangiovese. |

: I'm not sure "vertical" works. I think the idea is "top heavy", ie you get a lot of notes the first time you inhale. I found one wine described as "troppo verticale al naso".

i'm not sure about vertical either and personally would use 'dense first nose'

It's difficult without any more content. Can you provide few sentences more?

I see two options:
1. decisive nose / goes straight to the nose.
I've heard this pugilistic expression applied to wine: sapore deciso, verticale al naso.
2. nose consistent over the years
Vertical tasting means comparing bottles of the same wine made by one and the same winemaker over a succession of years.
I'm far from sure about either... :(

Hi, Isabelle,
On monday, I'm going to be on the phone with one of the major winemakers in my area (La Carraia). Might as well ask what that vertical probuscis might mean in their self-congratulating argot. If there's no hurry for you to make a decision ...

I asked one of 6 most famous oenologists in the world (Riccardo Cotarella).
He said he ain't sure, some kind of "aria fritta promozionale".

I found at least two relevant references, one of which is not even very positive. I'm beginning to think that it isn't either "dense" or "decisive" but simply "straightforward" Look:

Hello Michael. It can't be the second of your two options. Decisive might work - perhaps even immediate. Thanks anyway. I'll give it some thought. |
Thanks Michael. I'll be sending in the translation on Monday but it would be interesting to know what your wine producer thinks anyway! |
