I have a question/reflection on postulating for jobs, especially in the Proz forum:
There is a job offer for 175 Words and they ask for test- translation of 54 words.
My question is:
How do they check the quality of the translation?

If they have somebody to check the quality, though WHY this person doesn’t translate the whole 175 words?

I have a question/reflection on postulating for jobs, especially in the Proz forum:
There is a job offer for 175 Words and they ask for test- translation of 54 words.
My question is:
How do they check the quality of the translation?

If they have somebody to check the quality, though WHY this person doesn’t translate the whole 175 words?

I do not see the sense of this procedure to offer a job, a lot of translators make their input, spending time, and 1/3 of the translation is already done – with a lot of choice how to do it.
What is happening here?
I would like to look in these agencies or enterprises to understand that.
I participated, because of curiosity. After only one day, the job offer was closed. I did not even get an negative answer, though the enterprise apparently took a decision.

I would like to suggest that Proz opens a new forum, where agencies can ask for favors, such as we can do when we have a problem of a certain sentence to translate. In this way, every body who gives an answer, does not spend time in writing letters, sending CVs etc. etc., and knows clearly that he is doing a favor. It makes feel better than this obscure procedure.

If somebody can explain me what is happening here, I would be happy. Because that relation of short translation-texts and a test-translation of 1/4 to 1/3 of the text, I have seen quite often.

Contact Jobs moderators in case of suspicious test translations Nov 5, 2004

Hi Tresa,
Please note that I have moved the thread to ProZ.com Job Systems.

Please don't hesitate to contact a Jobs moderator (one at a time, please) if you note a test translation which you consider suspicious, quoting the job URL.

We will have a look into it.

Best regards,
Ralf
