PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Full Time Freelance Translator and Proof-reader specialized in translation, reviewing and post-editing in the following fields:
Marketing
Software localization
Video games
As a native speaker with Japanese background, I understand the culture of the target language and I can recognize what aspects of the source language need to be treated with particular care in order to provide high quality translations.
2006 - present: full-time freelance translator
As a full-time freelance translator I work for SLV (Single Language Vendors) and MLV (Multi Language Vendors) located in North America, Asia and Europe. In my work I always try to strike a balance between faithfulness to the source and readability in the target language. I always try to read related material on the subject that I'm translating and I keep myself up to date with new developments in my target language. My translations read as if they were originally written in the target language.
2005 - 2006: on-site assignment of 10 months at Localize Technologies, Redwood Shores, CA
I was assigned to the Apple account, and I was responsible for the linguistic quality of the Japanese deliverables including:
a) Translating, reviewing and post-editing text for Apple, including promotions, graphics, user interface elements and other Web site content.
b) Providing support to vendors answering query logs.
c) Implementing last minute changes requested by Apple.
d) Post editing using HTML editors such Adobe GoLive.
e) Evaluating the quality of linguistic tests completed by potential vendors.
f) Evaluating translations outsourced to vendors.
g) Maintaining Apple's terminology glossaries and language style guides.
This experience has been extremely valuable to me because I had the opportunity to interact with the final client, giving and receiving inputs and contributing to the definition and establishment of localization's best practices.
1999 - 2005: Part-Time Freelance Translator
I decided to start my career as a Freelance Translator as I have always had a passion for languages and writing. I became an Associate of ATA and I worked on a freelance basis for clients based in Europe, United States and Asia. During the course of the years I have always been able to keep a high quality standard.
