Forget about Auschwitz Camps and Wieliczka Salt Mine on a single day Nov 12, 2005

Or do you wish to make sprinting there?
You need about one hour to get from the city to the salt mine.
Then you will need some time to wait, until you can join a group of turists with your language. The visiting alone takes two or three hours - I don´t remember exactly. But you are NOT allowed to go on your own. So calcutale about five hours for the trip to the salt mine - and don´t forget to wear very comfortable shoes! For Auschwitz you will need at least the same time.
As Csaba has written above, it is your own decission, if you go there. I mean it is important to see that, but nevertheless - it makes at least sad.

Jerzy

The Hotel can help with arrangements Nov 12, 2005

Dear All,
Hotel System can book you into a guided tour of Salt Mine and/or Auschwitz. You should inquire at the reception desk.

I agree with Csaba: while Wieliczka Salt Mine is certainly an entertaining trip, you need to prepare yourself for visiting Auschwitz/Birkenau. It is a very serious place which will make you very quite for some time. It's probably a good idea to go there together with friends and spend some time together afterwards.

And what about tour for partners? Nov 13, 2005

Jerzy, Magda - could you please update on this?

I recall a group mail saying that there's a chance to organize a guided tour for partners - is the group formed yet? By now I am pretty sure I am coming together with my fiancee and I would like to arrange something for her while I'll be all busy...

Thanks!

have you taken a minute of your time to answer it?
I´m afraid not, as I haven´t got any mail from you.

Please give me a little bit more time to fix the details, then I shall post them here.

Jerzy

I meant no offense - at that time I was not sure whether I am coming alone or "in two". Now I know we are coming in two and I thought I'd better ask here, as I may not be the only oone interested.

Thank you for the informaiton.

neither to you nor to anyone else, but indeed you all get the invitation mail, but only very few have answered.
I asume then, that there are no more interested people among the participants.

- Tour on Sunday:
Will start at 10:00 am at Kazimierz and will include Kazimierz and the Old Town.

Both tours will be in English.
The cost for the guide is approximately 500 PLN per tour, so let´s hope we get enough participants

Visiting of Kazimierz on Saturday does not make much sense, as it is Sabbath time. OTOH visiting the Wawel museum on Sunday is not possible. So that´s why this schedule has been taken. Within both tours you have to count some more expenses in - for Wawel museum and cathedral these are approximately 25 PLN, the price for visiting a synagogue at Kazimierz is about 5 PLN. Please be prepared for long walking.

Meeting details shall be presented during the conferece on Friday for the Saturday and Sunday tour, if nothing changes.
Shall anything change, I´ll let you know here.

And just a small personal request to you all: most of you have got a round mail from Magda, asking you to express your interest to take a sightseeing tour either on your own or with your partner or even only for your partner. Unfortunately I got only 18 (!) answers out of about 130 asked people. From your interest at the time we started I would expect much more interest from your side. Please consider, that both Magda and me have our own business to run. Especially Magda has done a huge effort to organise everything for us. So if you expect an extra organised tour for you or your partner, please take this little time and tell us that. For now I have 4 particpants for Saturday and more or less 14 for Sunday. Even if it seems not to be much for now, the group shall not exceed 30 people, and than we would need a second guide. But you cannot expect we can organise this, when you let us know that on Friday evening! Thank you very much for your understanding.

Regards
Jerzy

Any partners interested in Wieliczka Salt Mine on Friday? Nov 13, 2005

Hi,

I am interested to see if anyone else would be going to the Wieliczka Salt Mine on Friday morning.

I would like my mother in law (English) to go and see it (an English tour is available) and I think I will escort her to the buses station to make sure she gets there ok. I would then suggest that she takes a taxi back to Krakow as I don't want her rambling on her own looking for the minibus...

Let me know! On forum or email [email protected]

Auschwitz - only one tour daily: departure 9:30 a.m. – return 3/4:00 p.m.

Prices:
Normal - 120PLN (~€30)
Sudent - 60PLN (for tourist under 25 years with ID) (~€15)
Child - 60PLN (for tourist under 12 years )(~€15)

These tours are organized daily and you can book it via hotel reception desk, departures and arrivals are at Matejko Square, so you will need to get there (short taxi distance).

However, if there will be min. 15 of us interested in any tour, the bus will pick us up directly from the hotel.

For those of you who are interested I suggest to send a very short e-mail to Ms. Monika Król ( m.krol at hotelsystem.pl) from the Hotel with the following title: Proz.com conference - Tour Booking and in the body please specify the destinantion, date and number of participants. (Payment is cash before departure).

As I said, if there will be less then 15 persons interested in a tour on a given day, you will need to pick up the tourist bus in the city centre (which should not be any problem) and if there will be at least 15 of us - dedicated bus or mini-bus will collect participants from the hotel directly.

Hope this helps!

Magda

Thank you for your reply Jerzy. I have checked and the tour at the mines is about 2 hours. I just didn't know the distance between everything! So, we will have to make a decision.

Hello Robert, thank you for making the effort to organize something for all of us.
Could you please count 4 more people? I hope it is not too late. It will be me, my sister and 2 friends who are all attending the conference.

I think it would be more convenient for us to meet you at the main square since we will be staying at a hotel in the center.

Please feel free to contact me if you need more information at [email protected].

Looking forward to meeting you all,

Effie

Hello Jerzy
I must say I didn't get any email about tours. But anyway, surely there must be interest in a tour for partners on Friday. Since that is the first day for many it makes sense to have a tour on that day and see anything more individual later. Anyway, I am cerrainly interested. Alternatively I suppose a group can simply go to the tourist office themselves on Friday.

@Bill Nov 16, 2005

If you registered recently, you might not get that mail. It was sent some time ago, as we had "only" about 130 registrants.

Nevertheless, there were no voices for a tour on Friday AFAIR, so you are the first one.
Actually we do not plan to organise the tour three times, but...
If there would be enough interested people (I think at least 10, to keep the cost per person low), this would be just one phone call more to get that organised.

So, if there is anyone of you, who wishes a tour on Friday, you have time until Saturday, November 19, to let me know that. When I get 10 people together, I shall try to organise something.
