Italian term

giro-piede

Italian to English Other Textiles / Clothing / Fashion Shoes
I am translating a description of a moccasin loafer that is made using various materials. The toe-box, the sides of the upper and the strap are made from one material and the tongue and the "giro-piede" are made from suede. I haven't been able to get any hits on google from it. I'm wondering if it is just the top line of the shoe that runs around the ankle. I have no image unfortunately as I am sure it would make it immediately apparent.

Suggestions are appreciated.

Eileen Cartoon Dec 28, 2015:
I couldn't find it but I think the giro-piede in a moccasin or loafer is the strip that runs all the way around the foot and connects vertically to the sole and the upper. I don't think it is a strap or the heel surround. I think it is the part that runs from the heel all the way around the foot and back to the heel again giving the thickness to the shoe.

shoe strap or sandal strap

As you know the verb "girare" in Italian language means "to turn" and the noun "piede" means "foot". Therefore, "giro-piede" must be something that turns around one's foot; thus "shoe strap" or "sandal strap".
Note from asker:
Yet the text already states the strap is in leather - "vaschetta e fascetta in pelle". Am I confused and "fascetta" is something else here?

In this case it seems to be an all-round fringe, but a mocassin is obviously different.
