In a description of a teacher's Danish classes, the author wrote: "Hans dansktimer praegedes af en egen hojtid." Every translation I've considered just doesn't work. Perhaps I'm trying to be too literal.

'egen' in this context means special, unique .. or maybe certain.

Maybe this will work ..

or his Danish classes had a certain solemnity

it takes a native speaker to get the last touch right!! Thanks Christine :-)
agree Michael Davies : I would prefer Christine's alternative translation. However,, Birthe's translation could also work (but needs 'a' between 'was' and 'certain').
