Danish term

At ligge på sit yderste

Danish to English Other Idioms / Maxims / Sayings Idiom
Er der et dækkende engelsk udtryk, her tænker jeg IKKE på fx: "deathbed" etc, men om et konkret idiom.

Discussion

Terence Ajbro Aug 7, 2007:
I understand, what about "to be at death's door"? More poetic.
Gitte Gifford (asker) Aug 7, 2007:
A Little Less Common I'm thinking about a term that is a bit more...poetic? The term is hardly used in Danish any longer and is from a text describing the death of H. C Andersen in 1875. The English ditto sounds a bit colloquial to me - but I might be mistaken:) I've never heard the expression before.

he's on his last legs

I'm not familiar with the Danish expression, but this might be what your looking for. It can also be used about an object.
