Holy cow :-) Twice in one day...
I guess it is a way to deal statistically with creatures of the bovine persuasion. I have seen 'årsko' in Swedish, too.

Just a suggestion.....I know the farmers here call them heifers if they are not used for breeding....or milk-cows
