U pitanju je zapravo greška. Neko je samo greškom napisao "inferents" umesto "interferents", što se može videti iz ostatka teksta.

so, by analogy:
Inferents = substances that are not explosives but their presence indicates by inference that there might be explosives near them. The point of training dogs to smell the "inferents" is to detect odourless explosives, like SEMTEX.
