English to Portuguese: Excerpt of a film synopsis General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Cinema, Film, TV, Drama
Source text - English Since her husband, the great “bull-fighter” Gregorio, died in a domestic accident, Trini, the world famous “flamenco” dancer, left the “tablaos” plunged into a deep depression. Eventually, her son Damian, has begun to show signs of a rebellion close to dementia. No doctor, psychologist or psychiatrist can explain this behavior. This will get worse, and it will require supernatural explanation. Then, they will contact to Father Lenin, a priest, repudiated by the church, that is suffering a crisis of faith. He is the only hope to restore the peace in this family. Possessions, exorcisms, poltergeists, witchcraft, blood and “flamenco” are the ingredients of this comedy, which makes a tribute to all the horror films related to the devil and to all the films of Berlanga, in strict clay-animation.
English to Portuguese: Excerpt of 'The Lion King' script General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Cinema, Film, TV, Drama
Source text - English {Camera change to Scar on his overhanging rock ledge.
We see Scar pace once and kick an old bone off the edge.}
{Enter Simba}
Simba: Hey Uncle Scar! Guess what!
Scar: I despise guessing games.
Simba: I'm going to be king of Pride Rock.
Scar: {Sarcastically} Oh goody.
Simba: {Looking out over the edge of the rock} My dad just
showed me the whole kingdom; {greedily} and I'm going
to rule it all. Heh heh.
Scar: Yes. Well... forgive me for not leaping for joy.
Bad back, you know.
{Scar flops down on his side.}
Simba: Hey, Uncle Scar? When I'm king, what will that make
you?
Scar: A monkey's uncle.
Simba: Heh heh. You're so weird.
Scar: You have NO idea. ...So, your father showed you the
whole kingdom, did he?
Simba: Everything.
Scar: He didn't show you what's beyond that rise at the
northern border...?
Simba: {Disappointed} Well, no... he said I can't go there.
Scar: And he's absolutely right. It's far too dangerous.
Only the bravest lions go there.
Simba: Well, I'm brave! What's out th--
Scar: {Interrupting} No, I'm sorry, Simba, I just can't
tell you.
Simba: Why not?
Scar: Simba, Simba, I'm only looking out for the well-
being of my favorite nephew.
{Scar rubs and pats Simba's head}
Simba: {Snorts sarcastically} Yeah, right, I'm your only nephew.
Scar: All the more reason for me to be protective... An
elephant graveyard is no place for a young prince...
{faking surprise} Oops!
Simba: {Enthusiastic} An elephant what? Whoa.
Scar: {Faking dismay} Oh dear, I've said too much... Well, I
suppose you'd have found sooner or later, you being SO
clever and all... {pulling Simba near} Oh, just do me
one favor-- promise me you'll never visit that dreadful
place.
Simba: {Thinks} No problem.
Scar: There's a good lad. You run along now and have
fun. And remember... it's our little secret.
{Simba leaves the rock, Scar walks away with an evil smile.
Menacing music.}
Translation - Portuguese {Transição de cena para Scar à beira da sua rocha. Vê-se Scar a dar um passo e a atirar um osso velho fora com a pata.}
{Simba entra}
Simba: Ei, tio Scar! Adivinha!
Scar: Detesto adivinhas.
Eh! Eh!
Scar: Sim. Olha... desculpa não dar pulos de alegria. Doem-me as costas.
{Scar cai de lado.}
Simba: Ei, tio Scar?
{Scar esfrega a cabeça de Simba e dá-lhe uma palmadinha}
Scar: Lindo menino. Agora vai lá e diverte-te. E lembra-te... é o nosso segredinho.
{Simba abandona a rocha e Scar sai com um sorriso maléfico. Música inquietante.}

Bio
For many years I have been studying and doing volunteer work, searching for the right path for me. I love learning new subjects and I am naturally curious about the world that we live in. Now that I have finished my Bachelor's Degree in Translation, I am ready to face the future challenges of the labor market.
Translating has become the perfect challenge for me: it is a constant process of learning and improvement. Pursuing the path of translation was not my first choice, because I have so many subjects that I enjoy. This fact, however, is the exact reason why I chose it. As a translator, I must research everything I can so I can be faithful to the original discourse that I am translating.
I am interested not only in traditional translation, but also in audiovisual translation, such as subtitling.
