Not officially, no. I mean, I do work on Saturdays and Sundays but I don't advertise the fact.

Although I generally avoid working on Sundays and major holidays, sometimes projects take longer than anticipated, thus requiring effort on the weekend. Not being particularly religious, Sunday has no special meaning for me. In my experience, visiting parks or museums are more enjoyable during the week when there are fewer crowds.

As per Murphy's law, the US government agency holds the project for the entire week and sends it for translation Friday afternoon, due on Monday morning. Lee

am working right now (Sunday night @ 21:39) In general, I try to take a day or two off a week (these needn't be Sat/Sun), but sometimes end up working all week. Life is expensive these days, especially in the south of England.

One of the good things about being a translator is that you can manage your own time. You are free to choose to work on weekends or not. It's really up to you. I work on Sundays and/or on weekends when I have to, and right now I am doing precisely that.
Sunday is the most productive day of mine. My kid and wife go outside. I silently and quietly scan documents, translate and review delicately. But my neighbors sometimes make engine noise to repair cars etc. I hope they do that less for sake of mine. Soonthon L.

Hello, Sundays/Fridays or weekends are supposed to be days off; however, I cannot turn down a client's request that has a tight deadline. The situation is different from working on a project that extends over weekends. I prefer to have a break.

Especially if you are no longer a newbie and also have a family - kid(s) and pet(s) included? I work on days when I have work to do; days when I don't are days off, regardless of weekends, public holidays, etc. However, job mails like that one just get ignored. Or, if I'm in a ribald mood, I might send a piquant reply.

Not officially, but... | Jul 25, 2022 |
...There are always exceptions that I reserve only for my long-time clients. Other than that, they must build their reputations with me first. Reputations such as not paying late, regular and/or large volume jobs, easy communications, etc.
Occasionally | Jul 25, 2022 |
Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t, it all depends on the amount of work I have, and on the deadline (I’m starting this week after a very productive weekend work-wise). My children are all grown-up and I live alone with my dog (she is fine provided she has food and “walkies”). So, I can do as I please and I find that Saturdays and Sundays provide me with lots of quality time and I can work without distractions. Anyway, I prefer taking days off when everyone else is "busy"...
Steve Robbie United Kingdom Local time: 07:19 Member (2017) German to English + ... Time off is more valuable at the weekend | Jul 25, 2022 |
In theory, I can work whenever I want. In practice, I have a life, so I prefer to take most of my downtime when everyone else does. Clients usually work from Monday to Friday. If I take a day off during the week, I often have to spend part of it dealing with inquiries. That isn't the case at the weekend - so free time at the weekend is more valuable.
