Traducción - inglés Nicaragua is the poorest country in Hispanic America; sixty percent of the country’s population survives in poverty. Because of inadequate economic resources, only 12 percent of Nicaragua’s youth gain access to university, which is less than India’s enrolment of 13 percent. In Nicaragua, only 78 percent of the population is literate. This is one of the lowest literacy rates in South America, and the world.
University For All (U4all) helps young people who do not have the adequate economic resources to gain access to university studies. In collaboration with the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Nicaragua-León [National Automous University of Nicaragua-León campus] (UNAN-León), U4all offers financial scholarships to young adults from the poorest areas of northern and rural Nicaragua.
Students with access to a university profession are more likely to improve their lives and the lives of their families. Hence, access to education becomes one of the main engines behind Nicaragua’s progress and the elimination of poverty here.
