Happy here Jun 17

Most of the translations I do nowadays are medical or artistic. I take on a whole range of texts, but never, ever touch financial or technical - ick!

Already fairly specialized Jun 17

I was already focusing on fairly specific niches (patents and technical manuals), but I'm more actively targeting them now in my marketing. So my niches themselves haven't changed, but I'm completely overhauling how I position myself.

It is absolutely necessary to specialize somehow Jun 17

No. I have always specialized in the human touch.

The 20 years I spent translating at the EU as staff translator were very helpful, as it covered a wide range of topics including agricultural policy, free movement of persons and services, migration, taxation, employment policy, social policy, education and vocational training, public health, consumer ... These are my niches…Collapse

N/A Jun 17

I specialize along the way, by accepting virtually every subject I'm offered since I started ages ago. It is clearly one of the reasons - among many others - why I'm still doing fine today.
