After having installed Commander One for Mac with support for the Dropbox protocol, I wondered whether my default file commander for Windows, Total Commander, would support Dropbox too. And indeed, it does! Via this plugin.

Do you know any other file commanders with support for the Dropbox protocol?

I no longer use Dropbox, but I seem to remember Directory Opus providing decent support from way back when.

Thanks, Dan!

Meanwhile I found this one:

https://cyberduck.io

Access your Dropbox without syncing to your computer.
Connect to one or more Dropbox accounts from any computer without installing the official Dropbox client.

Not exactly a file commander, but exactly what I'm looking for nevertheless: sending loads of files to Dropbox, without the need to use a browser or a syncing folder.

A bunch of file commanders is listed here:

https://alternativeto.net/software/total-commander/?platform=windows

Not sure how to filter on Dropbox compatibility...

BTW: What I don't like about the TC implementation:

  • You have to go via Edge.
  • Your credentials are saved locally.
  • I'm not even sure whether there is any encryption.
  • I don't now how strong any encryption is ... (I'll ask Mr. Ghisler!)

The implementation in Commander One (Mac only!) is way nicer.

If you check the option to save the credentials in the plugin,
they will be saved with a master password and AES256
encryption.

Edge itself will save the login via cookies. I cannot control how
it saves them.
